When I went back out to work yesterday I found out my normal route in is now gone. The 71st Street exit of US 75 is now totally closed off to everybody. The detour for US 75 traffic is now in place, and it won't be too long before the bridge will finally be torn down. In the process, they'll also be dropping down the height of the hill by several feet so it won't be as sharp a drop-off at 71st. Very important for ice season. Upshot of this, I now have to find a new way in to work. But not till next Saturday at the earliest. Carpooling all this week. Amazing the things you can find on the internet. Remember that ultra-hokey Morris Albert song "Feelings"? Found a version where he's doing the song in spanish. This is what Napster and Kazaa were for. Not for downloading new songs so you don't have to buy the album. It's for getting the super-rare stuff. And yes, "Feelings" is just as hokey in spanish.
Birthday present went well. She loved it. Enough to want to call in sick tomorrow, but her new work duties won't permit it. While picking up Birthday Girl for work I looked down and noticed that my fly was broken. One of those kind where the zipper can't be fixed. (Guess that's why they were such cheap pants.) So for the entire day at work I had to wear the sweater I keep at work tied to my waist, main part in front. Usually for a man that either means a] I peed my pants, or b] I have an embarassing erection. Neither one of those this time, just a broken fly. Someone else overseeing the Launch Pod found my headset. It was at a desk I was nowhere near on Friday, so somebody had taken it & put it there. Have already been told I won't be back in Launch Pod next week. Some nonsense about giving other people a shot. Bad news: working nine days straight, today through a week from tomorrow. Good news: it will be my last weekend working for quite a while. Waiting by the phone to find out which bar Birthday Girl will be going to because a bunch of her co-workers, myself included, will be meeting her there to help celebrate her 21st.
If members of the 80s rock bands Asia and Europe got together and formed a new group, would they call it Eurasia?
My DVD burner is starting to go on the fritz. Gotta remember to get a head cleaner for it (only one I have is designed for CDs and this unit won't play CDs of any type, only DVDs). As is stands right now the only time I can record something on this burner is if I run it start to finish & don't change out the disk before finishing. Really screws up my rentals.
Was not a good day.
Car has since been fixed (out $148 that I can't afford). Thought at first it was the alternator, but turned out it was a severely-corroded cable, which caused a fuse to overload. About the only good thing that happened to me today is that I made it back to the Launch Pod again next week, albeit this time on the evening shift. Off again this weekend as a result. And if the Buddy Pod starts the following weekend like it's still supposed to, my weekends at work are over.
His non-compete clause apparently about to expire, Travis Meyer starts on KOTV-6 effective June 1st. James Aydelott is following his wife to Dallas & taking a job there, he'll be leaving the week before. Likely scenario will be: Jim still doing just 5 & 6 pm, Travis doing weeknights @ 10, Dick moving back to weekends, and Katie moving up to mornings.
